Between 2000 and 2004, Idaho grew by 7.2% adding 93,585 to its population. Kootenai County was the fastest-growing of Idaho’s 44 counties. Kootenai County’s population increased 11.7% from 109,539 to 122,350, while the State of Idaho’s population grew to 1,393,262.

The rapid population growth brought in a large group of people with varied skills. The unemployment rate dropped from 8.2% in 2002 to 7.2% in 2003 to 6.2% at year end 2004.
