Between 2000 and 2008, Idaho grew by 17.7% adding 228,7375 to its population. Kootenai County was the fastest-growing of Idaho’s 44 counties. Kootenai County’s population increased 25.5% from 109,543 to 137,475, while the State of Idaho’s population grew to 1,522,690.
The rapid population growth brought into the state a large group of people with varied skills. The unemployment rate dropped from 8.2% in 2002 to 6.6% at year end 2012 after the economic downturn during the latter half of the first decade.
The population for the City of Rathdrum was 6,858 in 2011 which was a 42.4% increase since 2000. The population density is an average of 1,420 people per square mile.
